Ko wai Tāua?

Pūmanawa Jewellery is the creative expression of kaitoi Lincoln de Thierry (Ngāti Whakaue) māmā of four tamariki and wife, born in Maketū. Transforming and creating has always been a passion of mine, and this is just one of the many ways I express that. Pūmanawa Jewellery is a way to honour the moana by transforming its taonga into adornments that carry aroha, intention, and connection. Each piece nurtures a living relationship with te taiao, reminding us of where we come from and what we are responsible for.

Kaitiakitanga

We honour the moana and whenua as living ancestors. Our practices reflect our responsibility to protect and sustain te taiao for future generations.

Each taonga holds mauri. The spiritual essence of the moana and whenua lives within every piece, connecting the wearer to whakapapa and wairua.

Whanaungatanga

Nurturing the bond between wearer and te taiao, each taonga deepens connection to the moana, whenua, and all that sustains us.

Tikanga | Customs & Protocols

At Pūmanawa Jewellery, tikanga Māori is woven into every step of our process, from planning through to the completion of each taonga. Our approach ensures that every taonga is guided by respect, sustainability, and tradition.

Harvesting in Harmony with the Maramataka

We gather shells in alignment with the most productive Tangaroa moon phases: Tangaroa- ā-mua Tangaroa-ā-roto Tangaroa-ā-kiokio These phases are known for their abundance and vitality, making them the ideal time to collect with care and intention.

Karakia and Sustainable Practices

Before any collection begins, a karakia is recited to acknowledge Tangaroa and give thanks. Sustainability is paramount, only a small batch of shells is collected by hand, ensuring minimal impact on the ecosystem. Each shell is carefully inspected to ensure it is free from living creatures before we use them.
